I am really grateful to have had Miss Poorna Abeysiri perform my eye cataract surgery. She is a true professional, who is kind and courteous. She gave me clear and concise information on the procedure and risks of having the surgery, whilst putting me at ease and giving me total trust in her, when I was nervous about having the eye operation.
Miss Abeysiri was so gentle and soft spoken whilst performing the surgery, which turned out to be totally pain-free. The happy atmosphere projected within her entire team made me feel very relaxed and at ease. They got on well together.
My surgery was a success and I can now see nice clear definition and bright colour with the eye that was operated on. As in previous visits to Miss Abeysiri, she was warm, welcoming and courteous as ever. I cant wait for her to operate my other eye, as I have full confidence in her and would highly recommend her.

I have been with her since 2009 and she is a rare find- consultant who takes care of her patients. Very respectful and down to earth. She treat her patients with professionalism and she explain things in a very simple and clear language.

Miss Abeysiri is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust where she provides a general NHS ophthalmology service and specialist services in cataract and glaucoma. She has held posts with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists as College Tutor, Regional Advisor and Fellowship Examiner and is the Clinical Lead for Glaucoma.
She has over 10 years of service as an NHS consultant and extensive experience in cataract and glaucoma surgery, including high-volume, phacoemulsification cataract surgery and complex cataract surgery using extra-capsular and intra-capsular techniques with very good results.She has completed fellowship training in glaucoma and cornea and cataract and has experience from Moorfields Eye Hospital and The Western Eye Hospital, UK and Dunedin University Hospital, New Zealand.
She undertakes all forms of cataract surgery including complex, high-risk cataract surgery and refractive cataract surgery for reduction of spectacle dependence and all forms of glaucoma surgery including trabeculectomy filtration surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.
She treats all common conditions such as dry eyes and blepharitis and undertakes minor operations of the eyelids such as surgery on lid cysts.
